9 March 2021

Last night I dreamed that I was on a bus with Hoda Kotb, co-host of The Today Show, who was carrying a big swan that she was going to be shaving on The Today Show.  I wanted to take her picture, but couldn't find my cell phone so I was taking her picture with my toothbrush and then realized that I didn't know how to transfer the picture from the toothbrush to my computer.

It was a night when I actually slept, and slept long enough to have a dream...and slept deeply enough to remember the dream.

I watch commercials for mattresses and am so jealous of the people who have a sleep cycle.  mine is so different every night.

I read once that if you fall asleep right away, it means you are sleep deprived and that normal people have 10 minutes or so when their brains have random thoughts that kind of float around and eventually they fall asleep.  I don't fall asleep instantly any more, as I did for a long time, and I am more likely to have those unrelated thoughts that float around.

But occasionally my brain latches onto one of those thoughts and won't let it go and it wakes me up.

Over the weekend, I did a lot of pen pal letter answering.  When letters come in, I stack them according to the date they were mailed and answer them in that order.

I had  two letters that arrived the same day and when I opened the envelope of one of them to answer it, the letter was not there.  I looked everywhere and couldn't find it and decided I was going to have to write to the person who wrote to me and confess I had lost her letter.

As I was going to sleep this lost letter became one of the random subjects floating around in my head.  It started becoming more important and I started worrying about it so much that it woke me up.  Wide awake at 2 a.m.

I knew I wouldn't be able to go to sleep, so I turned on the TV, muted it (so it wouldn't bother Ned and Marta) and got the headphones to listen to it, but there was no sound.  Something was wrong with the headphones and I couldn't figure out what.   Instead, I turned on Monk and just read the captions and didn't need the sound.

At 6 a.m., I tried the headphones again.  Still no sound.  I wanted to watch Sunday Morning and knew I would need sound, so I decided to un-mute the TV and just have the sound very low.  When I un-muted it, there was no sound.  It was not the headphones that were not working--there was no sound on the TV at all.

I rebooted DISH and after it rebooted, I had sound on the TV and sound on the headphones.  Ned was proud of me that I had solved the problem myself.

In the morning, I looked for the lost letter again and discovered that it wasn't a letter at all, but a card saying she was going to send a letter soon.

I took a long nap during the day.
