Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Miss Independent (2003)

Unfamiliar with this week's song. Hear it here.

1) The song begins with Kelly describing a woman who is "independent" and "self-sufficient." Are you feeling especially independent and self-sufficient this morning? Or is there a particular task on your to-do list that you wish you had help with?
Relatively self-sufficient, I  guess.  I mean there is no particular task on a to-do list.  Ned's done it all, and has gone off for a long weekend at Lake Tahoe.

2) Kelly especially enjoys that this song was a hit, because she had to argue with the record company to even include it on her album. Tell us about a time you're glad fought to get your way.
I once worked for an attorney, part time.  He had me come in on a Sunday to work and all morning long he grumbled and griped that he had to go to his new (first) grandchild's baptism.  I finally had it and got angry with him (something I never do!)  I told him that this was his grandchild, that the work would wait and "You go to that baptism and you smile!"  I couldn't believe that he did it.  Another time he called me to his house and said he had to be in court and he wanted me to go to the office, pretend to work, and leave him a report on which of  the other secretaries talked while he was out of the audience.  I refused and quit.  I was very happy to be rid of him!

3) The video depicts a very lively party that spills from the house to the pool area. What's the last party you attended? Was it held indoors, outdoors, or did the revelers enjoy themselves both inside and outside?
We don't go to a lot of parties, so the last one we attended was the small gathering in September for my mother's 100th birthday.  Very short, all family and indoors.  She wasn't sure what was going on but we did get a family photo.

4)The partiers are playing with "silly string." Have you ever indulged in a "silly string" battle?

5) Kelly Clarkson has a new daytime talk show. Who hosted the last entertainment talk show (as opposed to news) that you watched?
I watch The Today Show and Kelly and Ryan every day and Colbert every night.

6) Kelly Clarkson told a foodie website that one of her favorite foods is sushi (especially California rolls). She said she's surprised how fond she is of it, since as a kid, sushi is a food she wouldn't even try. Tell us about something you had to be convinced to try, or do, that you were surprised to find you enjoyed.
As a kid I hated mushrooms and now I love them.  As an adult, escargot sounded really gross, but I promised a friend I would try them and liked them so much we ordered a second order. And BTW, I always wondered how Japanese "California rolls" are.  Do the Japanese really make sushi out of cream cheese and avocado?  (That said, I love them too, though my favorite sushi is spicy  tuna)

7) In 2003, when "Miss Independent" was released, Microsoft and Sony were furiously competing for gamers' attention. Do you own Playstation or Xbox, neither or both?

8) Also in 2003, the best-selling cookbook was The King Arthur Flour Baker's Companion. It features foolproof recipes for old favorites like waffles, pancakes, flat breads and crackers. When you look for a new recipe, are you searching for an easier/better way to make something familiar, or are you more likely looking to try something new?
Definitely looking to try something new.

9) Random question: Which has gotten you in more trouble -- love or money?
I guess money.  But not for more than 50 years.  When I was living alone, I ran a huge bill at a photo store and had to borrow money from my mother to pay it off.  I never did that again.  Char and Mike let me move in with them to save money on an apartment.
