5 March 2022

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here are today's questions!

Saturday 9: Good for You (2015)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Selena Gomez sings about how eager she is to look good for her lover. What color do you look best in?
Red, but the blue-ish red, not the orange-ish red.

2) She compares herself to a diamond, which is the birthstone of people born in April. Do you know your birthstone? Is it a gem you often wear?
My birthstone is the amethyst.  I got an amethyst ring when I was in grammar school and I wore it for many years, but gave it to my friend's daughter (another Aquarian) on her birthday.

3) Selena Gomez is a successful singer who has appeared on the Billboard charts more than 30 times. She also has her own cooking show on HBO Max. In each episode, Selena invites a chef to help her master a new recipe. She says that, off camera, the dish she enjoys making most is spicy miso ramen soup. What's your favorite soup?
I have the recipe for a delicious spiced lamb soup that I love, but have not made in many years.

4) She was recently nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance in the Hulu miniseries Only Murders in the Building. Have you streamed anything interesting lately that you would like to recommend to Sat 9ers?
I've been checking out series made from Harlan Coben books, which are all wonderful.  I just finished The Stranger, which I highly recommend.  I'm also watching the new seasons of Mrs. Maisel and of The Good Doctor, and looking forward to the next season of Call the Midwife and Outlander.

5) Selena Gomez provides the voice for Mavis Dracula, daughter of the Count, in the animated Hotel Transylvania movie and its sequels. In these family movies, Dracula and his family run a luxury hotel where monsters can vacation and get away from it all. The tone is similar to The Munsters and The Addams Family, TV shows from nearly 60 years ago. Casper the Friendly Ghost has been entertaining children for generations. When you were a child, were you fascinated by ghosts, goblins, monsters and other such creatures?
Not really, but I did love Casper.

6) Selena's busy schedule is especially impressive when you realize that she lives with lupus, a chronic condition that can affect the skin, joints and kidneys. She credits "diet, routine and medication" for helping her avoid flare-ups. Do you have any tips that might help us increase our productivity and efficiency?
I've written about it before, but I learned that pineapple help many people with pain.  I've been taking it for about a month now and have definitely noticed an improvement...and notice what happens when I don't eat it for several days.  I have my whole family eating pineapple every day now.

7) In 2015, when this week's song was popular, Leonard Nimoy died. Without looking it up, do you know why he was famous?
Is there possibly anybody answering Saturday 9 questions who would have to look up Leonard Nimoy???  I not only loved him in Star Trek but in several movies that he made after Star Trek was over.

8) Also in 2015, NASA announced that water had been found on Mars. Do you follow news about science and space?
A little.  I will read headlines and maybe a couple of paragraphs, but I'm not big into news about science and space.

9) Random question: What was the best year of your life?
I am fortunate that I can think of several years that might qualify, but the year I felt the best about myself was probably 1985 when I was working for The Lamplighters and Gilbert Russak was one of my best friends.

Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!"
Enjoy your weekend!
