SIGH

24 June 2022

I have been watching all of the Jan 6 hearings and, like many people have said, thought I knew what it was all going to be about, but the list of illegal things #45 did and how he tried to get people and organzations to buy into The Lie and find ways to turn the election around has been shocking.

Almost all of the people testifying have been Republicans who worked closely with him, who have such terrible things to share.

The things that is perhaps the most shocking of all is that these Republicans

...and others all testify about the terrible things the ex-pres did...and yet say that they would vote for him again, if he runs in 2024.

WHY??????

And then there the Supreme Court.  Remember when Obama was not allowed to appoint a justice in the beginning of the year because it was an election year, and #45 was allowed to appoint a justice just weeks before the 2020 election.  I still don't know how that happened.

But now it's a conservative court and this week, first they eliminated the New York rule that placed strict restrictions on carrying concealed firearms in public for self defense, finding its requirement that applicants seeking a concealed carry license demonstrate a special need for self-defense is unconstitutional.

In a 6-3 ruling, the Supreme Court reversed a lower court decision upholding New York's 108-year-old law limiting who can obtain a license to carry a concealed handgun in public. Democratic New York Gov. Kathy Hochul warned that her state is "just getting started" on gun restrictions after the Supreme Court struck down a state gun control measure.

And now, as #45 promised when he was campaigning, it appears the Supreme Court is on  track  to completely eliminate the nearly 50 year old Roe v. Wade ruling...and is considering eliminating contraception and same gender marriage.

I did not accept an opinion on abortion for many years, until I was considering working for a medical office where abortions were done.  It was not an abortion clinic, but they did abortions one night a week.  When I worked there part time, I just didn't work on that day, but when they offered me a full time job I had to think about how I really felt.  I decided that women need to make their own decisions.  If you feel it's OK for someone who is pregnant as the result of a rape (especially if a young child by her father), or for medical reasons, then you must also allow all women to make their own choices.

Biden, a Catholic, calls this decision "a sad day for the country" and said that his administration would take actions to try to ease access to abortions, though any decisions have to be made by Congress.. “I am spitting mad over this. We have six extremist justices on the United States Supreme Court who have decided that their moral and religious values should be imposed on the rest of America. This is not what America wants,” says Elizabeth Warren.  "The ruling is an 'insult' and 'a slap in the face to women.'" says Pelosi.

I'm having a difficult time these days.  It just seems that my whole life has been shaken up. Since #45 came to power, we are living in an age of chaos -- years and years of it.  What I think about a lot of what my mother used to say, "I'm glad I'm as old as I am."
