24 November 2021

There was a  tweet from Diana Gabaldon yesterday.  Someone asked her when the Kindle version of her new book would be available.  She said it would be released at midnight EST, same time as the hardback book (and audio).

I felt smug that I checked my Kindle at 9 p.m. on the 22nd and it was there--so I got the book 3 hours before the date it was supposedly going to be released.

I had read several chapters by the time I was falling asleep.  It always takes a little bit to get into a new book.  And this is not a book you could read cold because there is so much carry over from previous books.  But it didn't take as long to get into it as some of the Outlander books do, mostly because I just finished re-reading Book 8 and Book 9 starts right where Book 8 ends.

I slept well and woke up at 7:30 a.m., did not turn on The Today Show, which I watch every day, and started reading again.

This is what I did all day.

I took bathroom breaks, a lunch break, and an hour to listen to Ned's radio show (great Thanksgiving opening!)

But I did nothing else.

I am writing this while listening to Ned's show.  When it's over, I will go back to the book and read until time to make dinner, watch Jeopardy, then read all evening and let the DVR record anything I would be watching.

I bought both the Kindle version of the book and the audio book and found out that the two programs synchronize so if I am reading on Kindle, the audio book automatically moves to wherever it is that I am reading, so I have been listening  to the book, and following along by reading it.

Probably a good thing Ned and Marta are out of town this week.

I was tempted to buy this ornament for our Christmas tree, but with postage it would cost $30 -- and I'm not THAT much of a fan.
