11 May 2021

It was a quiet Mothers Day.  I had a decent night of sleep and was awake to watch Sunday Morning, as I usually do.  there was a segment on Stacey Abrams, the politician, lawyer, voting rights activist, and author who served in the Georgia House of Representatives from 2007 to 2017.  I couldn't believe that she has published EIGHT romance novels, under the name of Selena Montgomery, and has just published her first spy novel under her own name.  Where in the world does she have the time???

Jeri offered to make breakfast, which she did.  But before she did that she gave me my mother's day gift.  Unfortunately you have to be on Facebook to watch it because it can't be embedded, but if you are on Facebook, by all means please

watch this

I got some lovely cards, including the first card I've received from squirrels.

After breakfast, Jeri and I went to the supermarket and I bought food for the upcoming days, mostly things that Marta doesn't like that I've been missing (paid a ridiculous amount for a leg of lamb...but haven't had one in so long!).  Jeri told me that she and Walt said they were going to order something out for dinner and I chose Chinese food.

We got home in time for my daily nap, which I take to Netflix reruns of Criminal Minds.  When I woke up an hour later, Jeri and Walt were watching the show so we watched that together.  The dogs joined us.

I enjoyed watching the squirrels (3 of them) eating the new squash I bought...they have nearly eaten half of it in one afternoon!

I got a Happy Mother's Day note from Brianna on our on-line Scrabble game.

Jeri spent the afternoon grading papers and I spent the afternoon answering letters, so the time passed very quietly.

Tom called and we talked for half an hour, perhaps the longest conversation we've had in a very long time.  It was nice because he was outside and I could hear the birds singing around him.  I also talked with Lacie, who usually has nothing to say to me, but we had a nice chat, which was very nice.

After dinner the three of us sat down to watch The Manchurian Candidate, which I was happy to share with Jeri.

The Chinese dinner was too big and we all fell asleep in different parts of the movie.  I missed the part I was waiting to see all through it and had to go back and fast forward when they told me I had slept through it.  I didn't think I fell asleep at all.

But at the end of the day, when Jeri helped Bouncer upstairs and I settled in to watch a couple of other things before going to sleep (again), I felt very good about this low key Mothers Day.
