IMPULSE PURCHASE 11 June 2021 The last thing we needed in this house was a new cooking machine, but I've been reading a lot about air fryers and when I got a check for my last theater review and an air fryer on Amazon was on sale, I decided to get it. It's bigger than expected so no way to find a permanent home on the counter.
I spent a good part of the afternoon checking Facebook groups and You Tube videos. I found a site called Fabulously Frugal, which has lots of videos showing all sorts of exciting things to make in the air fryer. The problem with the site is that there is no way to get printed recipes (that I have found), so you have to watch the whole 30 minute video and try to take notes on recipes that you want to try.
I had to try the fryer right away, so found out I could cook frozen waffles, which would come out more crisp than doing them in the toaster. It worked, though Walt gave me a hard time saying it took 6 minutes in the air fryer and 3 minutes in the toaster. I later tried cooking an English muffin, thinking I could just brown the top without toasting both sides, but that didn't work very well, took too long, and didn't brown it anyway. But I had at least tried the machine and was getting an idea of how it worked. For dinner I made a chicken dish.
It wasn't particularly good but it was because of the recipe, not the fryer. I could tell from how juicy the chicken was that with something like fried chicken it was going to be very good. So today I'll be doing more research on videos and recipes and think of more things to use the fryer for ... and we'll have to figure out where to keep it when it's not being used!
