(ALMOST) NO PAIN 10 February 2021 It was so nice to wake up without pain. Well...not entirely without pain, but the difference between this morning and yesterday was significantly better. If you are going to feel abdominal pain all day, it's nice to have it happen on the day of a big trial in DC. I literally spent the entire day in my recliner with a hot pad on my abdomen, watching the impeachment. I wasn't even hungry. I finally had "breakfast" at 11, an English muffin, and then nothing until dinner. I told Ned I had read yesterday was "National Pizza Day," so we decided to have pizza. He went to Steve's place (my favorite pizza place) and was going to order two large pizzas, but found out that on Tuesdays if you order a extra large pizza, they give you a second for free. so he got two extra large pizzas and took one of Marta's sister's family. I wasn't hungry at all, but when the pizza arrived, I took the smallest slice and ate 3/4 of it and gave the rest to Polly, then I went back to the recliner and the hot pad. Walt and I watched Jeopardy!, NCIS and Finding your Roots (about Tony Shaloub and Christopher Meloni). When that show was over at 9, I realized that all I really wanted to do was to lie down, so I went into the couch and went to sleep. I was awake at 11 (as I knew I would be) and was wide awake long enough to watch a few shows and then realized that I was yawning, so went back to the couch at about 4 a.m. and slept through until after 8. I woke up feeling so much better with a little bit of soreness, but nothing like yesterday. Like yesterday, I was glued to the impeachment hearing. The House Managers have presented such a strong case, it's impossible to think that they can't get a conviction from the Republicans, but many of them have studiously NOT watched what has been happening. A reporter in the balcony pointed out all of the republicans who did not look at the video the managers played. I'm particularly impressed with Jamie Raskin, all of whose speeches have been riveting and it was particularly touching when he broke into tears talking about how his daughter, who was at the Capitol that day hiding under a table and texting good bye messages to her loved ones, since she thought whas was going to die, told her father she would never go back to the Capitol again.
When the defenders gave their speeches, I was wondering how Trump was feeling. For one thing they are so incredible scattered. The first guy had spoken for 15 minutes and I realized I didn't have a clue what he was talking about. But he repeated refers to "the former president" and many times talks about how Trump lost the election....I thought he fired his last attorneys because they wanted to do that and he refused to be called "former president." * * * * proceedings are coming back on, with film due to be shown. More tomorrow.
