BAKER'S GENES

27 March 2020

Dr. G (remember him?) likes to send out jokes and cartoons from time to time.  I think his mailing list includes all of his present and former secretaries.

Yesterday he sent this:

I had to laugh.  While I have never looked like the photo on the left, and not even the photo on the right, the message is clear.

I'm surprised, actually, that being quarantined for two weeks, or however long it has been since I last left the house, that I haven't gone on a baking binge.

But the other night  Ned baked a delicious chicken.

He made mashed potatoes to go along with it and there was so much left over I decided to make mashed potato bread...,

I was actually really proud of these.  I have a bread maker but decided to do it the old fashioned way and they turned out so well.  It was fun kneading dough again.  And the bread made fabulous toast in the morning!

Then, with my baker's genes stimulated, I remembered that Ned said we had "too much peanut butter" (is there such a thing?) in the house, so I also made peanut butter cookies.

They were yummy and the recipe made so many I was able to send a bag off to our friend Jessica.

I need to keep remembering the cartoon from Dr. G before my baking gets out of hand!  This is going to be a long quarantine.
