For those who celebrate Christmas #2

Taken from Pinterest

Star or Angel?
Star.  The star on the tree this year is one that Marta made in the early years of her marriage to Ned.

White Lights or Colored Lights?
We have white lights that came with the artificial tree that I bought a few years ago, but I think my preference is for colored lights.

Blinking Lights or Still Lights?
I don't think I care.  What we have now are still lights.  But blinking lights are ok too.

When do you open your gifts?
Christmas was yesterday.  Walt, Ned, Marta and I opened our gifts from each other on Christmas morning and then we opened the gifts from other people in the family at our big 2-1/2 hour family Zoom that night.

Do you buy gifts for your pet?
No.  Tom's dog bought a gift for Ned's dog and this is why I don't buy gifts for our dog!

Be honest: What's the worst gift you've ever gotten?
A scale.  A girl from Mexico who had lived with us when she was studying in high school brought me a scale at Christmas.  I wanted to cry.

Have you ever traveled for the holiday?
Only to my mother's house in the years when she hosted Christmas dinner

Did you see Santa as a child?
We always went to see Santa at the Emporium in San Francisco when I was a kid.

Can you name all the reindeer?
Of course.

Have you ever gone caroling?
I loved Christmas caroling.  My favorite time was caroling with the Lamplighters (professional singers) on the cable car in San Francisco.  We went from one end of the line, Market Street, to the other end of the line at Fisherman's Wharf...and then stopped at the Buena Vista for Irish coffee (they invented Irish coffee at the Buena Vista).  The last time we went "caroling," I played the kazoo.  I can't sing any more, unfortunately.

Do you drive around and look at the Christmas lights?
We did that just the other night.  My old boss' house is always the winner in the Davis decorations contest.

Have you ever left Santa cookies?
Always.  As a kid we left him cookies and milk.  When our kids were little, we had it on good authority that Santa didn't like milk, so we left him cookies and beer.

Have you ever had a white Christmas?
No.  It doesn't snow here.

Have you ever made a gingerbread house from scratch? From a kit?
Yes.  From scratch, not from a kit.

(with Hitomi from Japan and Ndangi from Zaire)

Be honest: Do you think the season is too commercial?
Definitely.

Imagine you were going to create the quintessential holiday soundtrack -- which song(s) absolutely must be included?
White Christmas (and other recordings by Bing Crosby), Little Drummer Boy, and most of the religious songs I sang in school.

What are your Christmas pet peeves?
Christmas decorations going on sale after the 4th of July.

PHOTO OF THE DAY

I couldn't see my mother for Christmas,
but at least she looks happy
