mail to Walt / mail to Bev

29 April 2020

Yesterday was such a "busy" day that I was exhausted at 9 p.m. and went to sleep then, sleeping most of the night, other than a couple of hours in the middle of the night, until 8 a.m. this morning.

"Busy" is a relative term.  It just means that I had stuff to do all day long.

It started at 9 a.m.  There was a Zoom birthday party scheduled for Char in the afternoon and I had never done Zoom before, so Jeri and I got together in a Zoom session and between the two of us we got me comfortable with Zoom, and Walt also got onto Zoom as well.

I wrote yesterday's journal after my Zoom lesson and then Ned asked if I wanted to go out for a drive.  He's been telling me how things are blossoming all over town and offered to just drive around so I could see the yard.  It was my first time out of the house and into Davis in 2 months.  It was a great drive.

There were so many beautiful gardens.  There were so many blooming gardens that even the air smelled beautiful.

We passed by the house which posts a riddle each day, with the answer to the previous day's riddle included.

The university was filled with blossoms, including one completely empty parking lot ringed with red and yellow roses.

I have never seen the university so deserted.  Occasionally we saw one person walking somewhere, but basically everywhere we went there was nobody.

There were some cars driving around downtown, but all the shops were closed.  It was like driving around a ghost town.  Then Ned drove out to the strawberry stand just outside of town.  It's where I try to buy strawberries during the season because they are grown there and are the best strawberries ever.  I was happy that  the stand was open, though now behind glass, which it usually is not.  We bought 3 baskets of strawberries and came home to cut up a basket for a snack.

At 1 a.m. Ned and Clyde's radio show was on and I had to listen to that.  It was a fun show including a recording of Ned and others singing W.C. Fields' "The Fatal Glass of Beer" toward the end--a recording I had not heard before.

I spent an hour reading...I'm near the end of my current book and hoped to finish it.

Walt went out and got clams and cream cheese so we could have clam dip at Char's Zoom party and at 4:30 we joined most of Char's family (including grandkids), and many from the Pinata Group for the party

I still need some lessons in Zoom -- I could only get 4 screens at a time on my cell phone, though there were a dozen or more actual screens.  But it was fun anyway.

Ned cooked dinner while the party was going on and then he and Marta ate dinner upstairs, while Walt and I ate dinner and then watched Jeopardy.  I was so sleepy I forgot that what we have been doing is watching The Good Fight every night.  We watched the previous night's episode of Bull and I could not stay awake, so I gave up and went to sleep.

As I said it wasn't that there was so much to do but just that it has been so long that I did anything during the day that it wore me out (and I also didn't get my nap).

They have THE best strawberries in Davis
