BUT...IT'S GREEN!

20 September 2019

My father won a contest once.  He got a call from Martinelli's apple sider and he could win ... something (I don't remember what) ... if he could tell them the company's motto.  He didn't have a clue and he had a minute to come up with an answer.  Suddenly, light bulbs went off in my head and I told him it was "drink your apple a day."  Which it was.  I don't remember what we won, but obviously my even-then media obsession paid off.

I thought about that when Ned presented me with a glass of green stuff for dinner last night.  Ned is into smoothies.  Marta less so, but Ned thinks it's an easy and--to him--delicious way to add vegetables to your diet.

We had dinner at their house in Sacramento some time ago and he served another green smoothie, which I just couldn't drink other than a taste of it.

I realized when I sniffed at this green thing last night that I was going to have to learn how to digest it because this was not the only time we would be having it.  Marta says it's not good, but it's not bad either.  Ned loves it.  I think Walt probably also loved it, since he's into healthy green stuff too.  The predominate taste was cucumber, but it also had spinach, apple, flax seeds and a bunch of other things.  And it was a sickly green color and looked grainy.

The first  taste I took was a hefty one because I knew I was going to have to finish it.  Yes, I did finish it.  I didn't like it, but I didn't hate it.  It was like drinking salad.  And I felt healthy when I finished it.  I am waiting for Ned to make the promised banana and peanut butter smoothie.  Now THAT I will enjoy.

The shelves are finished now and Ned has started loading them.

There is one thing for sure....it will be many a year before we have to buy coconut milk or coconut cream again!

Ned said Marta ordered a case of coconut cream when she was on the Keto diet and then went off the diet, but we still have a lot of coconut cream left.  i found a recipe for ground beef and coconut milk for dinner tonight!

I looked at the wonderful shelves and at how much has go to into them, and I don't have a clue how it is all going to fit...but Ned is a master at organization so I'm sure that either he'll make it fit...or make me throw away a bunch of stuff I don't use any more.
