November 2, 2019

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

The Addams Family (1964)

Unfamiliar with this week's song. Hear it here.

1) One of TV's spookiest families was inspired by a series of New Yorker cartoons. What's the last magazine you flipped through?

My new Pioneer Woman magazine just arrived and I thumbed through it.

2) The Addams' butler, Lurch, was originally conceived as a mute. But then actor Ted Cassidy ad libbed the line, "You rang?" and Lurch had a voice, and a catchphrase. Can you think of another catchphrase connected to a TV character?

"To the moon, Alice!" (The Honeymooners), "Marsha, Marsha, Marsha" (The Brady Bunch), "Doh!" (The Simpsons).

3) Now here's the most important question of the week: Do you prefer The Addams Family or The Munsters?

I think the Addams Family.

4) What's the scariest movie you've ever seen?

The only movie that actually made me gasp -- and it's not really technically a "scary" movie -- waas The Sixth Sense.

5) Thursday was Halloween. What goodies did you give the trick or treaters?

M&Ms, Butterfinger, and some non-chocolate candies (we ate all the Snickers before Halloween got here!)  In the end, we had exactly TWO trick or treaters!

6) Are you attending/have you attended any Halloween parties this year?

No.  For the first year in many years, we actually  turned on the lights and gave out candy.

7) Did you carve a jack o'lantern this year?

No.  But  Ned did, at the last minute

8) Do you eat candy corn all year around ... only at Halloween ... or never?

It's not a favorite.  I will eat it if it's lying around, but I don't go out of my way to find it.

9) In 1964, when The Addams Family premiered, one of the most popular store-bought Halloween costumes was Bambi. It came with a plastic mask held on by a thin elastic band. Tell us about a memorable Halloween costume from your childhood.

I never had "interesting" costumes.  More princess or gypsy or something like that.

Walt and I are going to Santa Barbara for the weekend.  We will help Alice Nan's husband celebrate his retirement.  Because so many people are coming to town, we have to stay in a motel this time, and that's always such a hassle to use my computer.

SO.  I'm doing Saturday 9 and Sunday Stealing before I leave and will link to them and then write Monday's entry when I get home.

Sadly, Ned and Marta were coming too, but the stress of the past month has finally hit Ned and he has come down with shingles and is too uncomfortable to drive 400 miles to spend the weekend having the grandkids climb all over him.  So he and Marta are holding down the fort while we're gone.
