4 May 2019

Welcome to Saturday 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: Don't Envy Me (1963)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) What is it about you that you believe your friends and acquaintances envy?

If anything, it's probably the fact that we've been able to travel so much.

2) Do you have a friend or acquaintance that you envy?

Well, "envy" is a bit strong, but am glad that my friend Char has made so many friends in the Adult Living facility where she lives and is involved in so many things.  It's the only thing that makes adult living appealing to me.

3) This song was not a hit, even though it was written and produced by the super successful team of Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Tell us about a project you had great confidence in at the beginning, but didn't turn out as well as you'd hoped.

We wrote two books about The Lamplighters, a theater company in San Francisco.  One to commemorate their 25th anniversary and another a 10 year follow-up.  They wanted a third volume, since it has been more than 20 years since book 2  I agreed to "help" with it and then ended up being in charge, but there were so many obstacles to overcome that after a year of planning, and some interviewing, I finally gave it up.  I'm sorry the project never got done, but I was the wrong person to do that book.

4) George Hamilton is better known as an actor. He is proud of his performance in the 1960 movie Light in the Piazza. He played an Italian who romances an American girl on holiday in Florence. Did you ever find love while vacationing?

No...my husband insists on going on vacation with me.  But we did get to Florence (I went twice) and enjoyed exploring.

5) George had a small part in Godfather III. How many of the Godfather movies have you seen? Have you read the book?

I can't remember if I read the book or not, but I have seen all three movies.  My son Paul was passionate about it because he was such a huge Robert DeNiro fan.

6) He's gotten a lot of publicity over the years for his personal life, including his 1966 romance with First Daughter Lynda Bird Johnson. At the time, she was living in the White House. Tell us about a memorable experience you had "meeting the parents."

Walt took me back to Maryland to visit his mother.  She had a refrigerator that had one of those 'eggs in the door' things, where you tilt the door down to get the eggs.  I remember thinking once that I wondered if anybody ever forgot to tilt the door back up again....and then a day or two later, I DID, and all the eggs fell on the floor.  Walt's mother was cool.  She just handed me towels to clean the mess up.

7) George is also known for his year-round tan. Have you ever used a tanning bed? Or self tanner?

No.  I have never had a tan.  I'm Irish -- I burn easily.

8) In 1963, when this record was released, President Kennedy made a historic trip to Ireland. Have you ever visited the land of your ancestors?

Ireland IS the land of my ancestors.  We've been there three times, I think.  The first time we went by ferry from Wales to Ireland and I had the strongest feeling, as the country began to come into view, that I was making the trip for my great-great grandmother.  I just feel at home in Ireland, though I understand it has changed quite a bit since I was last there (in 1996, I think)

9) Random question -- The last of a batch of delicious chocolate chip cookies just fell on your kitchen floor. Would you eat it?

Of course!!  If the dog doesn't get to them first.
