December 26, 2019

No pumpkin pie for breakfast this morning, and we won't be having turkey sandwiches for lunch, or turkey leftovers for dinner, because our Christmas hasn't happened yet.  Jeri and Phil fly in tomorrow and the rest of the group arrive on Saturday for our big family celebration.  That does not mean, however, that the day was ignored completely.

While Walt went off to Mass, I spent about an hour and a half watching "behind the scenes" of several dog shows.  It made me want to watch Best in Show again.

The four of us opened gifts from each other in the morning.  Ned was (and still is) resplendent in his new jacket.  Best money we've spent on him in a long time.

While not quite on the same level, I was happy with my new Christmas sox too.

Walt hit the jackpot with his gift for me.

Marta made a delicious breakfast that included chocolate croissants and eggs with cream cheese.  Lo cal stuff.

I had forgotten one gift for Ned that I gave him after breakfast, and he was happy to get a Breaking Bad quiz book, though he knew most of the answers without looking in the back of the book.  (I was surprised at how many answers I knew from having Ned marathon watch it daily since he's been living here.)

In the late morning Ned and Marta went for a bike ride around town to visit friends, while I continued to work on (and make great progress in) my office before I settled in to watch Miracle on 34th Street, which I knew would put me to sleep, which was OK because I know the movie so well.  But I saw the start and the end and got a nap as well.

Marta also made dinner and then they went upstairs while Walt and I watched The Great Rupert, a Christmas movie someone had recommended to me (with Jimmy Durante .... kind of stupid, but it got better toward the end).  And then, of course, I found Best in Show on Demand and we watched that.  I don't often laugh out loud in movies, but this one gets me every time, and it was just like the real dog shows I had watched in the morning.  I read my new book for awhile before finally turning in for the night.

So we sorta commemorated Christmas, and today I'm  off to see if I can get a good deal on a turkey and all the trimmings for our dinner on Saturday.

The girls made a croquembouche for dessert
