22 September 2018

Welcome to Saturday 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: Listen, People (1966)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) Basically Herman is telling us that we each both break hearts and have our hearts broken during our lifetime. Do you agree?

Yes.  I remember a couple of hearts I've retrospect, for the best

2) He implores us to take his advice. Have you more recently given or received advice?

I have spent so much time at Kaiser over the last couple of months, I've had a bunch of advice, augmented by advice from Ned (most of which is good) and from a friend of his, who takes care of old people (which I have appreciated).

3) Herman's real name is Peter Noone. He was popular with girls because of his bright, toothy smile. How's your oral health? When are you due to go to the dentist?

I see my dentist 3x a year, and am due for another exam next month.  At a point in my life where I thought I was about to lose all my teeth, she saved me and I think i put a couple of her kids through college.

4) Peter/Herman got married on his 21st birthday. That's one way to make sure you don't forget your anniversary. Do you have a good memory for anniversaries and birthdays?

I am generally very good at remembering dates.  I just sent birthday greetings to a high school friend I have not seen in more than 30 years, but I always remember when here birth date rolls around

5) Between 1965 and 1971, the Hermits worked very hard. They appeared on all the major TV shows of the day, recorded albums, made a movie and then criss-crossed the United States and the United Kingdom, performing live. After those six years, Peter decided he'd had enough and left the group. Have you ever felt burned out and ready for a change?

Oh yeah.  That's when I retired!

6) In 1966, when this song was popular, the miniskirt took the fashion world by storm. What's the most recent piece of clothing you added to your wardrobe?

I can't remember.  It's been a couple of years.  Maybe an elephant t-shirt.

7) In 1966, TVs were expensive pieces of furniture. A set with a 16" screen and a wood console sold for $250, which is $1,950 in today's dollars. Tell us about your TV. How big is it? Where did you buy it?

Hmmm....36"? 34"?  It's the largest size that would fit in the small corner where we put it.  We bought it at Costco and it's a smart TV, so I can watch Netflix and Amazon stuff.

8) David Schwimmer, aka Ross on Friends, was born in 1966. Who was your favorite Friend?

I don't know that I had a favorite.  I only watched it occasionally.  Maybe Phoebe.  Now that they are doing other things and aren't so associated with Friends I have probably most enjoyed Matt LeBlanc.

9) Random question -- Describe your dream car.

I've never had a "dream car," and now that I can no longer drive I care even less what a car looks like or how it acts, but if it's comfortable, if I can get INTO it without help and if I can run audio books or CDs I'd be happy.

I'd love it if you'd leave a comment!

Apparently someone decided I should approve comments before they appear -- it wasn't me! --
so if you don't see your comment, it's because it's awaiting approval.  Sorry 'bout that!
