6 October 2018

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9:  Treat You Better (2016)

Unfamiliar with this weeks tune?  Hear it here.

This song was chosen because October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Please share this information about The National Domestic Violence Hotline. Let's spread the word that there's help out there.

1) In this song, a young man advises his neighbor to stop wasting her time with a guy who makes her cry. What is something you regret wasting time on? (It doesn't have to be a romance.)

I can't think of anything.  Any unpleasant memories I have came from pleasant memories at the time and thinking back, I try to remember the pleasant--and then nothing was a waste of time.

2) Much of this video takes place in a very sparely-decorated apartment. Because Shawn Mendes and the girl he’s singing to both appear young, it’s easy to assume they are both in their first apartments. Tell us about the first place you ever rented.

It was a studio apartment in Berkeley.  One room furnished, with fold out bed, I think.  It was across the street from the dilapidated building owned by the Newman Club at UC Berkeley, where I often cooked dinner for the guys living there.  Nice apartment, but nothing special.

3) It's clear he can hear his neighbors' conversations and arguments through the walls. Are your neighbors quiet? Do you consider yourself a quiet neighbor?

We are quiet.  Our dog isn't always, but she's much better now that she's an only dog.  The houses are so far apart that I never notice any noise from the neighbors either.

4) This song received a lot of attention and airplay because it was used in a Southwest Airline commercial. When you last visited an airport, were you traveling yourself or meeting someone?

Hmmm...last time in an airport.  It was going somewhere (or returning from somewhere), but I can't remember where.  Maybe our trip home from Vienna in 2015?  Could it be that long ago?

5) This week's artist, Shawn Mendes, was a serious skateboarder during his high school years. Sam has never even set foot on a skateboard. How about you?

Good lord.  I can't walk on a flat floor without falling.  I'd kill myself if I ever stepped on a skateboard!

6) Shawn is happy eating cold cereal with milk for every meal -- breakfast, lunch and dinner. He prefers cereal with almonds in it. What about you? Do you have a favorite cereal?

Special K berries.  Even better when I have fresh strawberries to slice over it.

7) He says he started eating cereal beyond breakfast because it's convenient, and it helps him avoid "junk food" when he's in a hurry. Do you often order your food "to go?"

Almost never.  It's seems a great extravagance.  I cook.  (Though, truth to tell, a couple of "to go" meals a week would be very nice!)

8) In 2016, when this song was popular, a German shorthaired pointer named CJ won Best in Show at the Westminster Dog Show. Is there a dog who holds a special place in your heart?

Toby.  The ad in the newspaper said Toby was a "beagle mix puppy" but if that dog hd one drop of beagle blood in him, I'd be surprised.  We took the kids out just to "see him" about 2 weeks before Christmas and when we showed up at the house, there was this very big puppy with a big red ribbon around his neck....these people knew how to sell a dog!  But other than being "the dog that ate Villanova Drive" for a couple of years, he was a noble dog and I loved him.

Sheila was also special.  When we had to have her put to sleep (she had cancer), I was touching her when she died and I truly feel I felt her spirit leave her body.  She's the only animal I've had euthanized where I had that feeling.  It was somehow comforting.

9) And this week, we're trying a random fill in the blank: I wish someone would create an app that...

I don't use a lot of apps, so I'm not sure I can think of any that I wish I had.

PHOTO OF THE DAY

I love this picture.  Caroline (who returned for the night) and her fiance Tim
each on their cell phones, oblivious of the other one.  Seems to be what young
people are like these days, she says like the old woman she is.

I'd love it if you'd leave a comment!

Apparently someone decided I should approve comments before they appear -- it wasn't me! --
so if you don't see your comment, it's because it's awaiting approval.  Sorry 'bout that!
