24 February, 2018

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

The Love Club (2013)
Unfamiliar with this week's song. Hear it here.

1) Lorde has said this song is about a time when she fell into "a bad crowd." Her high-maintenance new friends were all about their romantic dramas and it overwhelmed her. Have you ever had a friend who was just too much work?

Yeah.  I worked with her.  I helped her end her marriage and move across the country with her lover.  I gave up six weeks of my life to work for her when she went on maternity leave.  She dumped me when I told her that her lover came on to me.  I haven't heard from her in years.  My life is calmer, but I mss her.

2) She sings that she longs to be alone. Where do you go when you want peace and quiet?

Since we live in an empty nest and only have one dog, who has stopped barking since the other one died, I just stay home and turn off the TV.

3) Lorde credits her mother for encouraging her verbal skills. "Mum" let her join a theater class when she was just 5 and was always giving her books. Tell us about an encouraging, understanding adult who assisted you when you were growing up

Sister Mary William caught me in my freshman year and invited me to join the yearbook staff.  I did and went on to be the sophomore, junior and senior editors.  Because of her, I discovered that I love writing and I credit her with the writing I do today.

4) Lorde is not the only celebrity from her class at Belmont School in Auckland, New Zealand. Olympian Eliza McCartney was a classmate who went on to win a bronze medal in Rio for the pole vault. Did you participate in any sports in high school?

Nope.  We had to play volleyball and I think we also had to play basketball, but the position I usually played (and was very good at) was "bench."

6) Lorde wrote music for one of the Hunger Games soundtracks. Have you seen any of the Hunger Games movies, or read any of the books?

I saw the first movie because I wanted to see what it was about.  I don't think I read the book.  The movie didn't inspire me to either read the books or see the rest of the movies.

7) Her favorite candy is Peanut M&Ms. Do you prefer Milk Chocolate, Peanut, Almond, Mint or Cripsy M&Ms?

I didn't know there was "milk chocolate M&Ms" but my favorite are the peanut.  I'll have to look for milk chocolate, since that is my favorite kind of chocolate.

8) When Lorde was on stage at Lollapalooza, a sudden storm interrupted her set. The music festival was evacuated and her performance was cancelled. Can you think of a time when the weather had a major impact on your plans?

We've had plane delays and twice we had layovers in strange towns.  The worst was when I was stranded in Denver where it was 30 degrees and I had nothing warm to wear, standing outside for half an hour waiting for the transport to the hotel where we were being put up. They also gave us food coupons, but nothing was open when we got to the hotel, and we got to the airport too early to use the coupons there either.

9) Random question: Please complete this sentence -- Before I leave the house, I always __________________________.

Give the dog a treat (she won't let me leave unless I do!)

I'd love it if you'd leave a comment!
