21 April, 2018

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: Love Don't Cost a Thing (2001)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) Love may not cost a thing, but everyday stuff does. What's the most recent thing you bought? How much did you spend?

I bought a bunch of stuff at the Dollar Store (pot holders, dish towels, stuff to send to the grandkids).  I spent $30.

2) This video begins with Jennifer Lopez on the phone, on a veranda with a view of the sea. What's the view from the room you're in right now?

Well, if I swivel my chair 180 degrees, I can see our back yard. but my desk faces a wall.

3) She sings that she doesn't want her lover's gifts or money, she just wants his attention. Let's change that a bit. Which would you prefer: a gift that was personally chosen but you know you'll never use, or cash?

Definitely a gift that was personally chosen.  "It's the thought that counts" works well for me.

4) She met her first husband, dancer Cris Judd, while working on this video. She met Ben Affleck, to whom she was once engaged, while working on a movie. Think of those you're closest to -- where did you meet them?

Most of them I met while at UC Berkeley, and we met through the Newman Center, the Catholic center on campus.

5) She and her current boyfriend, former Yankee Alex Rodriguez, are both workout fan
atics. How often do you exercise?

My exercise routine consists of walking from my desk into the kitchen to get a snack or a cup of coffee.  I do that a few times a day  I don't know how much that counts on a FitBit. Trying to get out of a chair also burns a lot of calories.

) Her high school nickname was "La Guitarra," because her curvy shape reminded her friends of a guitar. Share a high school memory about you and your friends.

My closest friends were the group involved in the Senior play (though my memories don't concern the play).  Three of us played hooky one day and snuck out of some religious retreat we were supposed to go to and instead we went downtown San Francisco and saw the movie Friendly Persuasion.

JLo just completed filming her third season playing a police detective on NBC's Shades of Blue. Did you see anything memorable on TV this past week?

I rented Victoria and Abdul, which I'd wanted to see ever since it came out as a movie.  It's now for rent through Xfinity and was worth it.  I loved the movie.  In strictly TV programs, "something memorable" this week would have to be the finale of Scandal, which I have followed from episode one.  TOTALLY un-believable, but wrapped things up nicely....well, except for Rosen.  The after-party on Jimmy Kimmel was lots of fun.

8) Jennifer Lopez posts often on Facebook, and Twitter, and Instagram. Do you feel you spend too much time on social media, do you wish you posted more often, or do you try to avoid it altogether?

Oh, I definitely spend too much time, but it's my social life, so I probably will not change.

9)  Random question: You're at a yard sale and come upon a
n unusual little knicknack that would make the perfect gift for your best friend. The tag says $7. You think that's rather high for a castoff. Do you pay it? Do you pass on it? Or do you try to get the seller to lower the price?

I'm a terrible haggler, and I think $7 is certainly reasonable.  That said, several years ago, I got one of those "unusual little knicknacks" at a Christmas party--where you play the "steal the gift" game.  I recognized it as a creation of a local artist and grabbed it.  Nobody else realized what it was and I smile whenever I look at it today.

I'd love it if you'd leave a comment!

Apparently someone decided I should approve comments before they appear -- it wasn't me! --
so if you don't see your comment, it's because it's awaiting approval.  Sorry 'bout that!
