14 January 2017

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: Wake Me Up Before You Go Go (1984)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This song was inspired by a note WHAM! partner Andrew Ridgeley left for his parents. He accidentally wrote "go" twice. What
was the last handwritten note you left for someone?

When we  work at the hospital, there is a binder that has all the information you need to know about the job.  One of the sections is for "notes," anything special the people working after you need to know.  I left a note today.

2) Born Georgios Panayiotou, George Michael was the son of the Greek restauranteur in East London. When you think of Greek cuisine, what comes to mind?

Spanakopita, that dish that is made with spinach and cheese, layered in crispy philo dough and baked.

3) He was a terrible driver and admitted his license was suspended a number of times. Have you ever lost your license?

No.  I had difficulty getting my license when I was dealing with cataracts and they said I would have to take a driver's test every year, but once I got the eyes fixed, I went back to normal.

4) WHAM! partner Andrew Ridgeley, on the other hand, is a talented driver who got to live his fantasy by racing Formula Three in Monaco. There are companies that sell racetrack driving experiences that allow you to spin around the track at dizzying speeds. Is this something you like to try

Ab-so-LUTE-ly not!  I'm not even comfortable driving the speed limit on the freeway.  I'm one of those little old ladies my father used to complain about who drive too slow.  I once got stopped on the freeway.  I couldn't beieve I was speeding, but I wasn't...I was driving too slow!

5) In 1990, Frank Sinatra famously gave George Michael advice.
Ol' Blue Eyes told the younger man to enjoy his fame, to remember all those lean nights traveling from gig to gig by bus and, now that he's successful, "loosen up and swing, man." Who last gave you advice? Did you take it?

Ned called last night, knowing how upset I am about the impending Trump presidency and he advised me to turn off the TV and the internet for the next four years.  And no, I probably won't take it!

Mr.  Michael's neighbors have reported since his passing that he seemed to live rather quietly, and that they usually saw him when he was out walking his three dogs. Tell us about the last time you spoke to one of your neighbors.

I think it's been years.  We live in a regular neighborhood, but there was an unpleasantness many years ago and I have not felt comfortable around the neighbors since.  I did talk to the person who was responsible for the unpleasantness a year ago.  She had collected money from all the neighbors when I had my head shaved to raise money for children's cancer.  I was amazingly touched...but it hasn't changed the feeling in the neighborhood since then. People probably think I'm snobbish, but really I'm just uncomfortable getting friendly with everyone again.

7) Fansites tell us that George Michael's favorite cereal was cornflakes. What breakfast cereals are currently in your kitchen?

Special K red berries and one of the Kashi cereals

8) In 1984, when "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" was popular, Murder, She Wrote premiered on CBS. Today it's still seen in reruns all over the world. Are you a fan?

I don't know if you'd call me a "fan" or not, but I watched it when it was running in its regular time slot, but haven't gone out of my way to find it to watch reruns, though I occasionally do if I come across it.

9) RANDOM QUESTION: What's your secret to a good night's sleep?

I am the very last person to ask about a "good night's sleep."  Lately I've been getting 6-8 hours of sleep, which is unheard of.  I average 4-5.  When I have insomnia, I watch Morning Joe and that almost always puts me to sleep (unless Trump has been particularly bad that day).

UPDATE:  Unbelievably I slept until 10:30 this morning!!!!!

The last hour at the hospital went by very slowly today!

I'd love it if you'd leave a comment!
