Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter Meme

When was the last time you wrote a letter to someone on paper?
Actually this afternoon, to accompany a bunch of postcards I was sending in an envelope.

Can you change the oil on a car?
I have.  Many years ago.  Walt and I once took a trip to LA in his old Rambler, where we stopped twice for gas and 18 times for oil.  In theory, I still can.  I just don't know if I could find the right place in our new car.

Ever gotten a speeding ticket?
No, thank goodness.  I managed to sweet talk myself out of two of them, and that has made me very respectful of speed limits now.

Run out of gas?
Yes.  A bazillion years ago, before Walt and I were married.  We were traveling with Mike and Char and ran out of gas on Pole Line Road near Mono Lake, on the eastern side of the Sierras.  Walt and Mike had to hitchhike to the nearest gas station and blamed Char and me for it for more than 50 years.  If we hadn't asked  to drive 2 blocks for ice cream before getting on Pole Line, they maintain we would have made it to Hwy 395 and could have coasted downhill to Lee Vining and a gas station.

Favorite kind of sandwich?
I love fresh tomato sandwiches on balloon bread with Best Food/Hellman's mayonnaise and a bit of salt.  Period.  I also love roast lamb sandwiches, also on balloon bread with Best Food and a bit of salt.  No lettuce on sandwiches.  Ever.

Best thing to eat for breakfast?
Crab Eggs Benedict.  I almost never get it, but it's wonderful.  Huevos rancheros is pretty good too.

What is your usual bedtime?
Midnight or later.

Are you lazy?
Is the Pope Catholic?

When you were a kid, what did you dress up as for Halloween?
I remember clearly a pirate maid when I was in 8th grade and this one.  I'm the one in the glittery mask, 2nd from the right.  I look like I'm eating a cob of corn.  I think I was some sort of middle eastern princess.  (BTW, the cute little pirate at the lower right is my sister)

Do you have any magazine subscriptions?
Not for me, but I do have subscriptions for each of the grandchildren.

Which are better, legos or lincoln logs?
Neither.  Lego had not been invented when I was a kid and I always wanted Lincoln Logs, but my parents didn't think those were for girls.

Are you stubborn?
I can be, but usually I'm reasonable.

Who is better…Leno or Letterman?
Shouldn't that be who WAS better?  Now it would be Colbert or Jimmy Fallon, and I would definitely choose Colbert.

Ever watch soap operas?
As a new mother back in the 1960s, but not in the past 40 years, though Ned has been watching Days of our Lives since he was in high school.

Afraid of heights?
Not horrendously, but I am uncomfortable enough to stay away from ledges.

Sing in the car?  No

Dance in the shower? Dance in the shower?  Do people do that!  I don't.

Dance in the car?  No

Ever used a gun?
I have only touched a gun once, my father's, when he worked on the train.  Other than that, never.

Do you think musicals are cheesy?
Of course.  That's why they're so much fun.  (Though musicals of late, like Rent, Spring Awakening and Les Miserables with more serious subject matter have transcended cheesiness)

Is Christmas stressful?
Not any more.  Now it's just sad because it's so low key without little kids around and my mother not caring. I miss having my annual Christmas Crisis.

Ever eat a pierogi?
Oooo....yes.  Love 'em.  It's one of the things that my father made very well.

Major annoyance right now?
Is there any doubt?

Occupations you wanted to be when you were a kid?
Several, over a few years.  I wanted to be a nurse (until I realized I didn't want to deal with "icky stuff"), a poll taker (go figure), an opera singer (until I realized I had no talent), and a nun (I almost DID become a nun.  Had my trunk packed and my plane ticket in hand until the local nuns suggested I wait 6 months before making the commitment.  I never went.).  I also wanted to be a mother, and at that I was successful.

Do you believe in ghosts?
