Sunday Stealing: The Gal's Meme, Part One

What’s your favorite word or phrase?
I think "serendipity" is a nice word.  "I always think there's a band, kid" is a phrase I like.

Tell us about a person who made you smile today.
We went to a birthday party for our friend Stephen.  Everybody there was a theater person (about a dozen or more folks) and my favoritest thing ever is to listen to Stephen, a theater expert chat with Jim, a movie buff. Both guys are also actors and so intelligent and it always makes me smile to listen to them talk (especially since I can actually follow what they are talking about)

What were you doing at 8 am this morning?
Drinking coffee, eating a bagel, and watching cooking shows on the Food Network.

What were you doing 30 minutes ago?
We were leaving the birthday party

What is your favorite holiday? Why?
Thanksgiving, because it's a time that centers on family without the pressure of gifts and decorations and that sort of thing  If you are like we are, and are close to everybody in the family it is not fraught with worry about disagreements, but with anticipation for seeing favorite people again.  (Also, I like pumpkin pie)

Tell us about a visit to another country.
We have been fortunate to visit several countries but maybe my favorite of the cruises we took with our friends Mike and Char was the very first one, a canal boat trip that was supposed to be up the inland waterways from London to Oxford but because the water was too high, we had to go on the Thames, which was significantly faster.  It was two canal boats, 8 passengers plus the crew.  We sailed some, walked some, and took lots of breaks. It took us 8 days to get from London to Oxford on the boats and then 40 minutes to get from Oxford to London on the train.  (The later cruises we took with Viking Cruises were significantly larger!)

What is the last thing you said aloud?
Can you go check where our seats are? (for the show we are seeing tomorrow)

What was the last thing you had to drink?
A cup of coffee.  Before that it was a glass of sparkling pear cider, which was delicious.

What are you wearing right now?
My party clothes ... slacks, a blouse, socks and Birkenstocks.  Yes, I always wear socks with my Birkenstocks.

What was the last thing you ate?
Birthday cake.  It was home made and delicious!

Have you bought any new clothing items this week
Honey, I haven't bought any new clothing items this YEAR!

When was the last time you ran?
What is this word "ran," please?  I think the last time I ran anywhere was probably during the Reagan administration.

What’s the last sporting event you watched
Does the opening ceremonies of the Olympics count?  If not, it was part of a women's volleyball game between US and Puerto Rico, but I don't know who won.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Africa.  But it ain't gonna happen.  In the meantime I'm living vicariously through books.

Who is the last person you sent a comment/message to on Facebook?
My friend Ken, to tell him I had received a 24 page letter from our mutual friend.

Ever go camping? If yes, tell us about one time.
How much time do you have?  We went camping frequently with our friends Mike and Char when our 10 children were small.  The trips all lump together in memory, but highlights include running out of gas in the middle of nowhere, just a few yards (not even 1/4 mile) from the downhill highway that would have taken us to a gas station.  The uphill to the freeway was too far for three people (one of whom was pregnant) to push.  Then there was the Memorial Day weekend where we drove for hundreds of miles to visit ghost towns and never saw another car (or a strip of pavement).  The time we got lost and had to ask Basque sheepherders (at least we told ourselves they were Basque sheepherders), who did not speak English, for directions.  Watching all the boys lined up alongside a dry river bed to pee into it because we didn't know when we would ever reach an outhouse, let alone a toilet.  Driving many, many miles out into the desert to see the rare, almost extinct puffer fish, who lives down many, many feet into a dark hole and is un-seeable...but we were THERE and the sign said the fish were there.  Somewhere.

And then, of course, there was squeezing 12 people into a 2-hole ghost town outhouse while lightning from a sudden storm was striking the ground just feet from where we were hiding.

Huckleberry hunting, quality control, and then sourdough pancakes in the morning, with gin fizzes made on the blender that was attached to the motor of the SUV.

And high noon at Blackwell's corners...but that is too long a story to print here.

Ahhh...camping stories...I got a million of them.

Do you think a tan improves your looks?
I don't know.  I have never tanned.  It's either white or pink/red for me.

Have you ever lost anything down a toilet?
Probably, but I don't remember what.

What is your guilty pleasure?
NCIS marathons.  Haagen Daz snack bars.

The birthday cake for our friend Stephen, a very classy guy.

I'd love it if you'd leave a comment!
