SATURDAY 9
First...a problem. I am using my laptop for the
next few days and have discovered there is some problem with my IP address,
which is, of course, written down at home. So I am composing on the
laptop and posting from flash drive on my brother-in-law's computer and
using my iPod for checking mail and Facebook. Bummer! But at
least I have options. However, "today in my history" will not be
updated until Tuesday.
19 September 2015
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What
we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every
Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the
questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions,"
so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a
comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules.
We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!
Saturday 9: Time
for Me to Fly (1978)
Unfamiliar with this
week's tune? Hear it
here.
1) How
often have you flown so far this year?
We flew to Seattle to meet my Compuserve buddies. We will fly to Spain
next month.
2) Think back to
your last flight. Was it pleasant, stressful, or just uneventful?
Don't get me started. NO flight is pleasant any more. To start
with, I can't remember the last flight I was on that was NOT delayed.
"Delay" just seems to be SOP these days and gone are the day when they would
apologize or offer you free anything if you miss your connecting flight.
Then there is zero room in the seats, especially for someone larger than
Twiggy. Forget leg room. Gone are peanuts because of peanut
allergies. All we get now is ONE package of dry yucky pretzels!
If the flight is long enough for a meal, what you get looks like something
they bought in a flea market and I can't get the tray table down in front of
me, so have to balance it on my lap. I used to love flying. I hate it
now.
3) According to the
Airports Council International, the world’s busiest airport is Atlanta's
Hartsfield. Have you ever been to Atlanta?
I was in Atlanta the weekend that airport opened. We flew into the old
airport and out of the new airport 3 days later. It's HUGE and my gate
was the very farthest one. Starting at the front door, using moving
walkways and not stopping for anything, it took me 30 minutes to get to my
gate. (And walked MUCH faster in those days.
4) This week’s
featured band, REO Speedwagon, took their name from a truck. Have you ever
driven a truck?
I don't think so.
5) REO Speedwagon
got their start in Champaign, Illinois,
which is home to the U of I campus and, consequently, many bars. One of the
most popular is the Blind Pig on Walnut Street. Give us the name of the bar,
club or restaurant where you met up with friends in your younger days.
We didn't do bar hopping that I remember in the 1960s, but we went to a few
pubs in Ireland in 1987, my favorite of which was The Squealing Pig.
6) Recently, lead
singer Kevin Cronin appeared on an infomercial, hawking TimeLife’s two CD
set of Ultimate Rock Ballads. Have you ever purchased anything from
TV?
A couple of times. Mostly junk, as it turned out, but I did get a few
good things.
7) This song is from
the CD, You Can Tune a Piano, but You Can’t Tunafish. Is there a can
of tuna in your kitchen right now?
I never have cans of tuna in my house any more because I buy the
vacuum packed bags...and I think I have two of them on the shelves at the
moment.
8) You Can Tuna
Piano, but You Can’t Tunafish is available on eBay on vinyl, CD,
cassette and 8 track. Did you have an 8 track player?
Nope. Never did. Though I still have 78 rpm records (along with
45s and 33-1/3s). Remember records?
9) In 1978, when
this song was popular, the first Susan B. Anthony Dollar was minted. How
much do you have in coins in your wallet right now?
Probably nothing. The clasp on the coin part of my wallet is broken
and all the coins usually fall out into my purse. I haven't gone
mining for coins in a long time.
