The Philosophy of Juice & Crackers

The story of Delicate Pooh

mail to Walt

30 November 2014

What kind of job did your mom have when you were growing up?
She was a stay at home Mom until I got into high school and then got a part time job with the Bank of America's trust department.  She retired many years later as a Trust Officer.

Have you ever known anyone thatís been on tv, including you?
I was on TV as a kid on a couple of kids' programs, and again as a breastfeeding mother on a panel discussing breastfeeding. I was part of a choir on a TV documentary about a home for unwed mothers (they couldn't show the faces of the girls, so they used our high school choir).  As for people I know on TV, that would be Jim Brochu, who has been on a number of programs, and of course David Gerrold, who wrote "The Trouble with Tribbles" for Star Trek and appeared in one of the Deep Space Nine episodes (wearing a red shirt), and in a Big Bang Theory episode with D.C. Fontana, whom I also had lunch with one day.  My friend Ruth Chambers is a local TV celebrity on the city-wide TV station.

What was the most interesting animal you have seen in the wild?
A "thorny devil" that I saw walking across the road in Australia.

that's just barely smaller than life size

What holiday do you enjoy the most?
Thanksgiving.  Lots of good food, good family time (if you like your family, which I do), no pressure to buy gifts.

What was the first video game you ever played?
Pong.  We bought our kids an Atari, as I recall.  I sucked at it and only played it once or twice

What is the one thing you own, that if it got lost, you would be bummed?
Delicate Pooh.

Do you have a favorite breakfast item?
Hmmm.  Pancakes or waffles...with sausage.

What do you find yourself buying all the time?
That's easy.  Books.

When was the last time you got a real letter in the mail?
I belong to SwapBot, which encourages mail exchanges between members, so probably right before I left for Iowa, 3 weeks ago.

Do you have a most prized piece of jewelry?
The necklace my granddaughters gave to me when I turned 70.  It says "A Grandmother's Love is Forever."

Do you own any board games?
Lots, left over from when the kids were little...but we never play them now.

What chore seems the most daunting right now?
Packing my suitcase to return to California on Tuesday.

Were you born in the state you live in?
I was born and raised in San Francisco and now live 80 miles away from there.  I have never lived out of California.

Have you ever lived in a house that has been broken into?
We lived in a flat in San Francisco when I was growing up, and it was broken into once.  The thieves stole my piggy bank.  I've never recovered from that loss of security.

What is your favorite cheese?
Swiss and Boursin

Who do you know that watches the most sports?
Well, my cousin-in-law, Ernie Baur was sports director for Fox Sports for many years, so he wins hands down (though he retired recently, though may still watch as many sports for all know).  In the running is my brother-in-law Joe who watches more sports than even our son Tom.

Photo of the Day

It's 39 degrees today.  I can't believe I (and the dogs) think that's warm!

I'd love it if you'd leave a comment!
