FLORA, FAUNA AND FOTOS 6 March 2008 It was so beautiful today we decided to go for a walk. After running a couple of errands in town, we headed over to the parking lot end of the UC Davis Arboretum, stuck Mary's handicap placard on the car, and headed off down the hill toward Putah Creek.
This is a gorgeous time at the Arboretum, with some trees coming into blossom, and things turning a beautiful green. The first thing we saw that stunned me, though, was a green heron, who seemed to be following us along the water's edge. I'd seen a lot of birds in the Arboretum over the years, but this was the first time I'd seen a green heron.
We both took a lot of photos of redwoods, poppies, ducks, and each other.
I found a little kid who was doing something with ducks. He didn't seem to be feeding them (which they have asked people not to do any more), but he was having fun with them. I particularly liked the way he was holding up his pants. (I just missed a shot where he was bent over and unintentionally mooning me!)
And naturally you can't take anybody around the UC Davis campus without introducing them to Robert Arneson's famous "eggheads."
In all, we walked about an hour and a half and eventually made our way back to the car and then to Pluto's restaurant, where we ordered lovely salads. The weather was so good that we were able to eat outside. (Mary is trying not to think about the depth of the snow she is going home to next week!)
We finally headed on home, where I took a little nap to be ready to go see The 25th Anniversary Putnam County Spelling Bee, a very fun show. Tomorrow: The Charles Schulz museum in Santa Rosa. |
