SEZ WHO? 18 February 2007 Everybody face Australia and think quietly to yourself, "happy birthday, Peggy." Peggy has entered a whole new decade today and I'm having such fun teasing her about it. But enough about Peggy. This is about me, me, ME. My birthday was really quite nice. The morning started with Walt and his sister sharing "newspaper reading time" on the deck of her house.
Then we all had breakfast and Walt and I set off for the day. First he dropped me at Joe's so I could post yesterday's journal entry while he drove over to visit with his mother. Then he picked me up and we went to Tom's to check on the progress of his gigantic house remodel. I am just amazed at the transformation in the place, but the nicest thing is that through the complicated enlarging process, they still managed to save the avocado tree.
When we had had the full tour, Walt and I got back in our little PT Cruiser...
...and headed south into the LA area. We were meeting our friend Michael and his boyfriend Travis for dinner at the place where Michael met us for dinner when we came to town for the show last year. It was our first chance to meet Travis in person (though I read his blog) and we were so pleased to see what a nice guy he is.
When dinner finished, it was time for the main event. We drove up to the Skirball Center off Mulholland Drive and joined the line of people waiting to get into the auditorium for the taping of two episodes of Says You. Most of the regulars were there, but weather had prevented my favorite, Tony Kahn, from making it to the west coast. However, sitting in his chair was the delightful Wendie Mallick (from Just Shoot Me and many other TV shows).
It was an interesting crowd. I was sitting in front of a man with the most raucus laugh known to mankind (I almost wished for ear plugs) and a couple of seats away from a woman with crimson dyed hair, dressed in jeans with tons of glitter appliled, who seemed to feel that everybody on the stage was her best friend and would whoop and holler whenever applause time came around. Walt said when he went out to go to the men's room he saw a guy sitting and working a puzzle and he thought how fitting that seemed to be for a Says You audience. Wendie Mallick's parents were front and center, her father with a camera in his lap. We never stop being "parents," even when our kids are adult professionals! The taping ran until about 11, after which we had the long drive back to Santa Barbara (well Walt had the long drive back to Santa Barbara; I just had to sit there with my iPod in my ears). We got here shortly after midnight. It is now 1:30 and I'm about to get some sleep so I can get up, head over to Joe's and post this entry before we fly out of Burbank tomorrow night. It's been a really nice birthday weekend, I have to admit. I hope Peggy is having as nice a weekend in her half of the hemisphere. |
