Support liberty and justice for all

18 April 2007

I made a big mistake.

When I decided not to take my computer to my mother's when I went down for Cousins' Day, I let people on the notify list know that I would be posting the journal late, but I neglected to put a note in the journal itself, forgetting that being on the notify list is kind of unnecessary, since I post every day.

I have to admit that it was rather gratifying when I received one phone call from Ron on my cell phone, 2 messages on the answering machine when I got home, and several e-mails asking if I was all right.

Yes, I'm fine.  Just took a few hours off.  Now I have two entries to write to catch up!  I apologize to those who were worried.  I won't do that again.

But it was worth it.  Kathy and Peach picked me up around 10:30 yesterday morning.  I had gotten up early to make a casserole to take with me for dinner.  We got to my mother's in time for lunch and then to get ready to play cards again

Here is my mother counting out all her coins.  After 2 days she had more than she started out with.  But let's not go there.

We played two or three rounds of "65."  Actually I won the first game and was feeling pretty cocky, but by the time we left this morning all that cockiness had been knocked out of me, along with most of my small change.

We took a break to sit around and chit-chat for awhile until almost 5 p.m. when it was time for....appletinis!

Kathy was back at her old spot whipping up apple martinis for us and my mother was laughing and already asking if we couldn't make this every 2 weeks instead of every month.

I don't want people to think that drinking apple martinis is the only reason we are doing these cousins' days, but it sure makes it more fun.

I think we all appreciated this Cousins' Day more than the last time.  The last time it was to get together again, since my mother was not independent again and not needing all of us to help her.

This time we're beginning to rediscover our friendships, to really bond in a way we haven't since we were children.  And it's great laugh therapy (especially after a couple of apple martinis).

We played a couple more games after dinner, watched the results show of Dancing with the Stars and then went to sleep.  It was such a good day.

I love my cousins!
