THE GOOD OLD DAYS?
21 October 2006
While I'm on the road, driving to Santa Barbara, here's a look back at what some people think were "the good old days." I don't think so!!!
I actually remember when things like this appeared in magazines (well, of course...I was born in 1943, so I probably read this at some point in 1955)! The underlining in this article was not done by me, but I might have underlined the same thing if I had thought about it!
This is why I have suffered from what I call "Donna Reed Syndrome." I always expected that I'd get married and go whirling through the house like Donna, full crinoline skirts, pearls at the neck, spotless house (it's ok...you can laugh; I'll wait for you. waiting...waiting... ...you don't need to laugh THAT hard, now!)
Anyway, I used to read junk like this. And watched all those 40s and 50s movies where the wives behaved like this. So until I accepted that this was never going to be me, I really felt guilty that I couldn't accomplish this ideal.
Dontcha like "Don't complain if he's late home for dinner or even if he stays out all night. Count this as minor compared to what he might have gone through that day." and "You have no right to question him."?
I wonder who wrote this bunch of bullpucky. You can bet it wasn't a woman.
