THIS DAY IN THE LIFE
8 May 2006
* An idea taken from Paper Napkin. The embarrassing thing about this recording of daily activities is exactly how little I actually got accomplished!
3 a.m. - up to piddle. Sneak quietly back, so as not to wake puppy.
5:30 a.m. - wake up for the day, take puppy outside to piddle (realizing that I'm about 5 minutes too late), clean up last night's puddles and poop piles, stagger to computer, check e-mail, post journal entry for tomorrow, realize that it's time to feed dogs. Fix doggie breakfast, stand guard so puppy's food doesn't get stolen. Make coffee.
7:00 a.m. - settle in with coffee to watch "Real Time with Bill Maher," which was DVR'd last night.
8:00 a.m. - have a couple of tortillas for breakfast, retire to computer to make a Lawsuit video to post tomorrow, ripped from a VHS tape that Ned made in 1992, which I transferred to DVD. Cough. Sneeze. Blow nose. Moan a lot.
9:00 a.m. - Refill coffee. Clean up Kimba puddle. Start transcription, but decide to make another video first. Get interrupted by puppy who needs to go outside. Go out and let puppy poop, play fetch with Sheila who, surprisingly, actually retrieves tossed toys, for a while.
10:00 a.m. - Back to computer. Finish off video. Plan to start transcribing. Again.
10:30 a.m. - Decided to rip another DVD before starting transcription. Now need to raid the fridge to find something to eat. Found some leftover chicken. Heat it, eat it. Then start transcription. Again. But first, make just one more video.
11:00 a.m. Finally put earphones in ears. This is starting to look Serious. Like I might actually start transcribing. But then I decided to look at Rocketboom and just by incredible coincidence watched this video on Procrastination.
In it he talks about eating cereal and that sounded good, so I took a break to pour myself a bowl of cereal. Cleaned up Kimba puddle. Sneezed, coughed, blew nose, groaned.
12:00 noon. I've typed one whole report (not tape, report), and watched Food Network, printing off the good sounding recipes. Now it's time to make more coffee.
12:45 p.m. Made coffee and the puppy woke up, so fixed his lunch, and stood guard so the other dogs wouldn't eat it. Then took puppy outside for his afternoon romp in the grass. Now back inside again. Now I am going to transcribe. Right after I find a nasty e-card to send to my brother-in-law for his birthday.
1:15 p.m. Sent off two cards, signed the card Walt bought, picked up, read and answered e-mail and decided to take a nap before the Kentucky Derby starts.
3:30 p.m. Slept until just before 3, when the Derby started. Watched the Derby. Now I'm going to transcribe. Maybe. Right after I make this next move in my Scrabble game with Joan.
She's winning. As usual.
4:00 p.m. Was going to transcribe, but decided that this entry needed some graphics, so spent some time copying and editing the video, card, and Scrabble graphics. Also ate some the the strawberries Walt brought back from the Farmers' Market.
4:15 p.m. Remembered I'd made coffee before taking my nap and had only had 2 sips, so I went out and re-heated coffee. That woke up puppy, so fed puppy. Warmed a tortilla to eat while puppy was eating.
4:30 p.m. News came from Ned about having to have Yogi put to sleep. Sent him a virtual hug. Then looked at the clock and realized we are going to a Cinco de Mayo party at 5 p.m. and I'm not dressed yet. Gave up on transcription and got ready for party.
9:30 p.m. Returned from the party, which was delightful. How often do you go somewhere that has a margarita machine?
We got home early enough for me to do some transcription before going to sleep, but Peanut was traumatized from being locked in the cage while we were gone and just wanted to cuddle, so he and I climbed into the recliner and I watched last week's Lost, which I hadn't seen before, while Peanut whimpered and cuddled and told me how much he hated being in the cage. Now I've put him in his own bed, and it's time to go to sleep.
I'll transcribe tomorrow. Maybe.
