BUSY? WHO, ME?

23 July 2002

It's definitely been "one of those days." Not necessarily in a bad way, but in that hamster-in-the-wheel sort of way.

The morning wasn't too bad, though the night had been weird. Again, I fell asleep too early so was wide awake at 2 a.m., realizing that I had finished none of the typing I had intended to do at night. So I worked for an hour or so, then went back to sleep for a bit.

Walt was flying to Arkansas at the crack of dawn, so we had to leave here at 5:30 to get to the airport.

When I returned home, I was determined to finish all of Dr. G's work, which went in interminably. The only thing that was nagging away at the back of my head was that I didn't know where I had put this sheet of paper he'd given me with some information on it last week. It was addresses of letters he wanted me to send, but I also had a huge book of names and addresses, and sorta remembered that the names were duplicated in the book, so I didn't worry about it too much.

We had a full day of patients scheduled, so I grabbed a quick bite to eat at 11:30 and got to the office by 12.

Actually, it wasn't too bad. Two of the patients were no-shows and one cancelled, so my participation wasn't too harried and I had time to get some bookkeeping done. At the end of the day, I made sure all the patients for tomorrow had been contacted and reminded that they have appointments .

I left the office "early" (6:30) and the "easy" part of my day was over.

It's Monday night, so it's time to review another show. No time for dinner, so I just reached in the fridge and grabbed--yogurt, tomatoes, a scrambled egg, and a Power Bar. I guess that was a more or less balanced meal.

The show was Unsinkable Molly Brown this time. Not one of my favorites, but saved by two terrific leading actors.

The show ended at 10:45 and now I have to write the review and find that damn piece of paper I couldn't find yesterday--because it has some VERY important information on it and Dr. G is expecting me to bring it in tomorrow (I told him I had "forgotten" to bring it in today).

I've also mislaid his wife's resume, which I'm supposed to be typing--and, apparently, a tape that he dictated a week ago, which seems to be nowhere around here.

I'm not sure if I'm going to get any sleep tonight or not. (Naturally, the very first thing I did was to write a journal entry, did you notice?)

Quote of the Day

.... Forget the excuses, let go of the shoulds, move beyond the if onlys, and ask yourself this one question. Are you willing or are you not? All the many things that go into any achievement can be reduced to one clear and simple factor. And that is -- are you willing? When you are willing to do what it takes, you'll find a way. When you are willing, though circumstances conspire against you, you'll get it done anyway. When you're truly willing, the problems have a way of being transformed into opportunities. When you're really willing, the disappointments have a way of making you even more determined. If you're willing, that's great -- go for it with everything you have. Yet if you're not willing, there's still a way to become so. Somewhere, somehow, there is something that will inspire and engage you fully. Connect yourself with it and suddenly, you'll be willing, willing to do whatever it takes.

What?  Doesn't everyone keep
muskets and spears in
their dining room??

One Year Ago
You Can't Go Home Again
I still remember the day when, with shaking hands, I opened the envelope that contained the photo I’d taken of Judy Garland, when I met her at the Fairmont Hotel. I just about floated home, on finding that the photo had turned out quite well, despite my shaking hands as I took the photo.

Two Years Ago
A Perfect Day
Michael, in anticipation of my arrival, was recording a videotape from a DVD of the old Judy Garland show for me. We share a love of Judy Garland (unlike Steve, who describes himself as an "Ethel fag, not a Judy fag.").
